All Things Afrikan

================

I just got an email from Ben Jealous and the NAACP telling me about his recent meeting with Troy Davis, an African-American man from Georgia who faces execution for murder, despite a strong claim of innocence.

Seven out of nine witnesses in Davis' trial have recanted or contradicted their testimony, no murder weapon was found, and no physical evidence links Davis to the crime. What is even more troubling about Davis’ case, is that he has been denied the right to speak out on his own behalf, despite the fact that others in his position are allowed to do so.

It was recently discovered that Dateline and the Associated Press have been denied access to Troy Davis, and that 60 Minutes has not been allowed to bring in cameras to interview Davis.

The NAACP and I are demanding that the Georgia Department of Corrections let Troy Davis speak. Please stand with us and send a letter to Commissioner Brian Owens of the Georgia Department of Corrections today and demand he give Troy the right to speak. I just sent my letter, and it took less than a minute.

Please join me and the NAACP in pushing for real criminal justice reform in the United States.
