Black Unity

All Things Afrikan

During a evening chat with Black Unity member, the discussion came up about Nelson Mandela and views of how some may think he is a "sellout." The controversial view is just fine as this is one of the things the forums bring. My blog is not about Nelson Mandela but the use of the forums. I find myself being guilty of discussing certain post outside of BU as I should express myself in the forum as we need to spark up conversations here and thrive in unity. I am sure that all members have much to share whether it be experiences, opinions, insights, etc. Let us begin to converse and reason as a family and prosper.

Peace!

Not really about bashing just a different point of view, opening up a discussion for understanding.

Thank you Nat for this response. Yes I made the subject of this blog "Regarding Nelson Mandela" as I thought that it may get a response and I am glad it did. The purpose of the blog was intended to let those understand that we need to post our opinions, views, insights, etc. in the forums as to create dialouge. We may not always agree with one another and really that is fine but without discourse we will not be able to reason and validate what it is that we want to address. By the way I did post Nelson Mandela in the revolutionary category so please feel free to express yourself.

Peace sankofa,
So is your question , is Nelson Mandela a sellout ?
I for one feel that the agreement that was made to allow him to be freed from over 20 years in prison, came with strings attached. Mandela was revered by many , myself included along with his courageous wife Winnie.
When Mandela made his tour of the world after his release, I witnessed his presence in New Yorkkk. From Brooklyn to Bway, to Harlem, ending at Yankkkee stadium, I was there.
I did not enter the stadium, but saw the news clip of him making a statement as he put on a Yankkkee baseball cap " Now you know who I am ". The statement was kind of odd for someone who I'm sure was well aware of the racism that Black folk had , and continue to experience. It struck as a kind of siding with the enemy of Black people.
Later , his distancing from the woman who stood by his side, and fought for the liberation of not only Nelson , but for the Black South Africans seem to be a betrayal.
Later with Mandela as the president of SA, and allowing the "truth and Reconciliation commission" to allow white murders to go free for their vicious crimes against Black people , and continue their lives in SA , I found nauseating.
To see the families who lost loved ones, and listened to the stories of krakkkas who murdered ,destroyed and maimed innocent Black folk.
Krakkas have our political prisoners waiting to die or spending the rest of their life in hell holes, why must we turn the other cheek ?
It is a sellout, especially since not much has changed in South Africa, the whites are still the ruling class, and Black folk are homeless while krakkkas have their tea at noon.
Death to krakkkas, and negroes who do their bidding.

We are a family here and if we can not talk with and among family, then were will it be safe for us to talk.back in the day our ancestors found ways around getting their message heard by the use of drums and udercover meeting late at night in slave quarters. We can and must do the same things to move us forward and get prepared for the war that is coming.
